Mount Vernon FR is backed by Mount Vernon Mills’ Eco-Excellence™ program, which ensures that all fabrics comply with standards for environmental excellence, and meet today’s global demand for eco-consciousness.
Mount Vernon also recycles water used in production processes through their boiler, so that they are wasting less and conserving more.

You can be sure that any fabric you get from Mount Vernon FR will be made responsibly, with you and the environment in mind. In addition to complying with environmental standards, we routinely check that our products do not contain any Restricted Substances above acceptable trace background levels by reviewing our customers’ Restricted Substances Lists.

Recap of Trion Operations Long-Term Pollution Prevention Accomplishments For 2016
- Zero processed fiber waste, which represents the vast majority of total manufacturing waste, is landfilled: 18% is reclaimed and reusable back into the process and 82% is non-reusable and recycled off-site.
- Mount Vernon’s Trion Location is Chattooga County’s largest employer, but generates less than 5% of the county’s solid waste.
- Since 2000, regulated air pollutant emissions have been reduced by an additional 52%.
- Since 2000, volatile organic compound air emissions have been reduced by an additional 68%.
- Since 2000, water withdrawal from Trion Spring, which includes Mount Vernon’s process water and drinking water for the Town of Trion, has been reduced by an additional 15.2%.
- Since 2000, the organic pollutant loading (Biochemical Oxygen Demand, or BOD) on the wastewater treatment plant has been reduced by an additional 42%. This has been accomplished in part by eliminating certain chemicals and replacing them with more environmentally friendly alternatives.
- Though beneficial and highly desirable as a nutrient through land application on local farms that saves the agricultural community tens of thousands of dollars a year in crop fertilization expense, biosolids from the wastewater treatment plant have been reduced by an additional 41% since 2000 due to the reduction in organic pollutant loading on the plant.
- The Trion Operations are considered a Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator of hazardous waste by EPA, as little if any hazardous waste is generated at this location.
Recap of Trion Operations Near-Term Key Pollution Prevention Accomplishments
- From 2008 to 2016, solid waste sent off-site to a landfill as measured per pound of production declined 7.4%, while production increased 5.2% during this same period.
- From 2008 to 2016, water usage per linear yard of production has declined 13.6%.
- From 2008 to 2016, total energy consumption per pound of production has declined nearly 1%.
- Since 2008, Mount Vernon’s Trion facility has saved 25,286,786 kWh of electricity through lighting upgrades, compressor air leak audit programs, and various other efficiency-improving upgrades. This is equivalent to the average annual energy consumption of 2,313 U.S. homes.
- Since 2008, Mount Vernon’s Trion facility has saved 327 million gallons of water, which is enough to fill nearly 9,000 20’x40′ swimming pools.
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions
- From 2008 to 2016, total GHG emissions from on-site fuel combustion and electricity usage have declined 24.6%.
- GHG emissions from electricity as measured per pound of production declined by 30% during this period, while GHG emissions from fuel combustion as measured per pound of production declined 28.1%.
- With this decline in total GHG emissions, production actually increased 5.2% during this period.
